Paolo Sebastian SS24 Couture “Allora Domenica”

Yesterday I was invited to photograph the Paolo Sebastian media showing of Paul’s newest range, “Allora Domenica” SS24 at Bird In Hand Winery.

The super sweet and talented Paul Vasileff is the creative force behind Paolo Sebastian. In front of the ever green rows of vineyards and clinking glasses of champagne, he spoke to his nearest and feared about his journey into the world of fashion and the inspiration behind his newest range. The sweetest part of this media Q+A discussion; Vasileff expressing his loyalty and love to living in Adelaide, South Australia and his desire to continue to run his business right here in his home state. Which made the local hotspot, Bird in Hand the perfect backdrop for his new Mediterranean inspired range.

On what felt like the warmest day all summer, which was fitting for the Meditarrean vibe of the collection; Bird In Hand Winery was packed with an exclusive line up of influencers and media; including Olivia Molly Rogers, Kelly Finlayson, Elise Cook and celebrity stylist Lana Wilkinson.

Before the show, I slipped away backstage to be a fly on the wall while Paul fluffed dresses and adorned the models in headscarves. Paolo Sebastian's couture collections are a celebration of romance, fantasy, and meticulous craftsmanship. From ethereal bridal gowns to enchanting eveningwear, Vasileff's creations transport wearers to a world of unparalleled beauty.

One of the hallmarks of Paolo Sebastian's success is the designer's ability to tell compelling stories through his collections. Whether inspired by fairy tales, historical eras, or natural wonders, each runway show unveils a new chapter in the brand's captivating narrative. The attention to storytelling not only adds depth to the collections but also establishes a profound connection between the designer, his creations, and the audience. And this range was no exception.

“A collection dear to my heart, dedicated to Nonna Domenica,” says Vasileff about his newest range at Paolo Sebastian.

Allora Domenica captures the undone romance of old-world Italy, where Vasileff’s nonna grew up, and the heart of the woman it forged in the process: a young girl reading her summers in secret; a woman gathering water for neighbouring birds; a seamstress creating; a lover of history and artistry alike. This was a time where dreams were so often left unbloomed, beauty came in far simpler forms, and kindness and service prevailed—a hallmark of the legacy she then bestowed upon her family.

“Domenica dreamed of being a teacher, and in the end, she was my very first.”
