3 Reasons to Get Engagement Photos

Maybe you're camera shy or feel like engagement photos are an unnecessary. But the truth is, I always recommend having an engagement session once you make it official —in fact, some say its incredibly important and here is why.

1. Getting you comfortable infront of the camera

If you’re anything like most people, we don’t love being infront of the camera. That’s why it's important to get a "test run" before your wedding day where the photos will likely feel more significant. Not everyone feels natural posing in front of a professional photographer—especially when it comes to taking candid or romantic shots with your partner—and an engagement session should feel, in part, like practice. By having an engagement session, you'll learn how to relax, feel at ease and even look less tense and awkward in your real wedding photos.

2. Getting to know your photographer before the big day

Going off of that, establishing a relationship with your photographer before your wedding will make a difference in the outcome of your wedding photos. Spending about an hour getting comfortable, getting to know them, having fun with them, and getting some practice infant of the camera will help so much going into the big day. They'll take note of how you interact with each other, your individual personalities and even your quirks. These details will help them capture moments on the wedding day that are unique to just the two of you. Also, we recommend taking engagement pics sooner rather than later so you're not stressing to get them done when you're in full-on wedding planning mode.

3. It builds your bond and helps you to celebrate

This is such an exciting time in your lives, you’re getting freaking married! An engagement shoot gives you a chance to celebrate this short time that you are engaged, before all the planning stress starts to creep in. Getting out of your comfort zone with your partner, and doing something like this can deepen a bond and can take you back to those first date jitters. I often get a text after the session from the bride-to-be saying “oh me and my partner actually had so much fun, we were a bit nervous but we felt like it was a fun date night”. Having an engagement shoot allows you to remember this very short, but precious time together spent looking forward to your wedding day. To remember how you felt, the excitement, the nerves, the love!

That’s it from me! I hope to hear from you soon to capture this incredibly special time in your lives.
Stacey xoxo
